A young woman striving for rebellious authenticity
My friends call me D
"ONE OF THE MOST REBELLIOUS THINGS WE COULD DO IN MODERN DAY SOCIETY IS TO BE COMPLETELY OURSELVES - AUTHENTICALLY - IN A WORLD WHERE ALMOST NOTHING WE SEE IS REAL ANYMORE."
In my first draft for this section, I let myself down. I did the very thing that I promised myself that I wouldn't do. I tried to write something that you, my reader, would like to read. I obsessed over the wording. I felt embarrassed when I let my husband read it, thinking that it must sound stupid or like I was trying too hard. I was trying too hard. So here is the real "about me".

I am a mom. And a wife. I am an impatient, curly-haired, Italian-tempered, fiercely loyal, insecure, obsessive researcher. A lover of music, candles, sweets, cuddles, sushi, and traveling, even though I haven't done much of the latter.

My whole world is my family and the Lord. I honestly don't even know how to describe what they mean to me, except that it is in giving myself totally to them each and every day that I feel fulfilled.

I AM FED UP.

In the past few years - especially since becoming a mom - I have experienced the unbelievable tidal wave of expectations and judgement that we women place on ourselves and experience from others.
I have seen that things like integrity, real community, true vulnerability, and pride in who we are even when no one else is looking, become anomalies rather than realities that each of us can experience in our life.
Everyone has to look perfect. Everyone has to act perfect. And if you don't, you're failing.

Nope. That is not what this life is about. That is not how I want my children to experience this life. And if we want things to change, we have to make something happen.

"WE OURSELVES FEEL THAT WHAT WE ARE DOING IS JUST
A DROP IN THE OCEAN. BUT THE OCEAN WOULD BE LESS
BECAUSE OF THAT ONE DROP."
- Mother Theresa
One of the most rebellious things we could do in modern day society is to be completely ourselves - authentically - in a world where almost nothing we see is real anymore. So, I have decided that this will be my mission. I want to show my kids that I am unashamed of who I am. That my life isn't perfect, but it is perfect for me in my own way. That I will fight to find the beauty in the ordinary. That I have hope in the knowledge that the Creator of the Universe is working on my imperfection every day so that, in the end, I may join Him in paradise. And that each and every one of us is called to that end - all we need to do is ask.

So, welcome to this cozy corner of the internet that I named after my son and daughter. If you are different from me, I am not offended. How about you be you, and I'll be me. Deal?

My name is Deahna. But my friends call me D.
